Devaramane Betta sits about 22 km from Mudigere town, and is one of the shorter climbs on this list by trail distance — around 1.5 km — though the altitude gain still makes it a genuine, moderate trek rather than a stroll. At the base is a temple dedicated to Lord Kalabhairaveshwara — accounts of its exact age vary (estimates run from roughly 800 to over 1,400 years), but it's genuinely old and worth the visit on its own, open 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. Local legend holds that Lord Shiva established his abode here after discovering a deception by Nandi.
Beside the temple is a small lake with an associated well — the water is used in temple rituals and is locally believed to have healing properties. The well itself has been reconstructed over the years, and both the old and new structures are still visible.
From the top, the view opens out toward the distinctive hump of Ettina Bhuja in the distance. The hill is also known locally for the rare Harlu flower, which reportedly blooms only once every twelve years — not something to plan a trip around, but worth knowing if you happen to be there in a bloom year.
